Choosing Trust and Faith

Choosing Trust and Faith
Matthew 6:31-32

The title of today’s devotion is, “Choosing Trust and Faith” and our scripture list comes basically from “My Daily Light – May 5 am.” I encourage you to pause, meditate, and make notes in a journal or a Bible as we go through these verses.

Matthew 6:31–32 (NLT)
31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’

Don’t worry… easier said than done, right? But, verse 32 says,

32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.

Your Heavenly Father knows your needs – so you don’t need to worry like unbelievers do.

Psalm 34:9–10 (NLT)
9 Fear the Lord, you his godly people, for those who fear him will have all they need.

To “fear the Lord” means to live in reverent awe of God. We can replace our worry with a reverent awe of God.

10 Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing.

Those who trust in the Lord, those who walk in reverent awe of the Lord, will lack no good thing. You may feel like you are lacking some good thing today – but maybe it’s a perspective problem – or maybe it’s God drawing you into a deeper trust relationship with him.

Psalm 84:11–12 (NLT)
11 For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.

For those who do what is right, there is trust and walking in reverent awe and doing what is right… all these things are part of Choosing Trust and Faith.

12 O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, what joy for those who trust in you.

There is joy that surpasses circumstance in learning to completely trust in the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

Philippians 4:6 (NLT)
6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

Our prayers of trust and faith can replace our thoughts of worry and anxiety as we pour out hearts out to God, trusting that he hears us and he knows what we need – as we thank him for all he has already done for us.

Matthew 10:29–31 (NLT)
29 What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. 30 And the very hairs on your head are all numbered.

God hasn’t forgotten us; he hasn’t abandoned us. Our Heavenly Father knows exactly what’s going on with us – he knows every small detail of our life.

31 So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.

You are more valuable to God than you know – we may feel like our Heavenly Father doesn’t know what we are going through – but he does, he knows, and he cares.

Luke 8:25 (NLT)
25 Then he asked them, “Where is your faith?” . . .

This comes from when Jesus calmed the storm that the Disciples thought was going to kill them. Jesus was showing the Disciples that they actually had more faith in the circumstances that they could see than in God who was with them… where is your faith?

Mark 11:22 (NLT)
22 Then Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God.

Have faith in God – whatever you are going through today – have more faith in God than you do in the circumstances that you can see.

Have more faith in God – than in your circumstances.

Would you take a minute – literally sixty seconds – to respond to God right now, according to what these verses have spoken to you today?

Talk to God. Choose to have faith in him, over and beyond your circumstances. Commit to God to have faith in him – through your circumstances. Choose to trust God’s presence and his work in your life more than you trust your circumstances.

Tell God your fears, roll your burdens over to him, and commit to trust him, and cling to him and to his promises.

Okay, now you pray…

I pray you have connected with God today – I pray you have heard him speak to you, and I pray you have responded – in faith – to him.

Thank you for joining us today. I know that the Word of God, lit alive by the Holy Spirit, will absolutely impact your day and your life.
