God has made a way for Mercy (us not getting what we deserve), and Holiness (God's absolute righteousness), to meet. God's righteousness and our peace have kissed.
Our God is both a perfectly just God, and a merciful Savior. His righteousness is perfectly upheld, His law perfectly satisfied, and our trespasses are not held against us. Jesus Christ is God's perfect righteousness and the acceptable sacrifice for our sins, to be received by faith alone. God is both perfectly just, and the perfect justifier of those who put their faith in Jesus.
Though He was God's perfect righteousness; Jesus was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement for our peace was upon Him. So who now can bring a charge against those who have received God's righteousness through faith in Christ? It is God who judges, and it is God Himself who justifies us.
There's no way to earn this righteousness. It's not for the one who works, but for the one who believes in Him who justifies the ungodly. It is by faith alone that we are counted as righteous. God is perfectly holy, and He is immeasuably merciful. He Himself paid for our sins, so that we could, by faith, be counted as righteous, in Him.
Our only appropriate response is a life of true worship.
