God is good when times are hard

It has been a really difficult month for us. Very stressful ministry requirements coupled with the tragedy of loss of life in our family (our nephew), and the unknowing of a very difficult surgery coming up for Danielle.

But in the midst of it all, God continues to show Himself strong on our behalf. He continues to show us that He brings life and hope in the midst of trials and uncertainty.
He brought us a beautiful new baby boy (Breezy’s son). He opened the door miraculously for the head of neurosurgery at Scripps institute to do Danielle’s surgery. He’s bringing comfort in the midst of the terrible accident Pam’s sister and others were in. And He’s at work like never before in the body at Calvary Chapel Nuevo.
God is good when the times are hard. He’s there for us when we need a strong foundation to fall on. His arms are open wide to comfort us when we’re exhausted. Knowing that He has all the answers helps us to stop asking “why?”
God wants to meet you in the midst of your storm in way that He can’t meet you at any other time. Are you looking for Him? Are your eyes peeled to the horizon, looking for signs of Him coming to you?
I sat with a brother whose wife is walking out; no explanation, no reasoning with her. I sat with a family who lost their son while he was just trying to cross the street. Another brother is in major chemo treatment battling cancer. Marriages strained to the breaking point, Christians making very non-Christ-like decisions, financial stress like many have never seen before . . .
Yet, God is with us. Jesus Christ died for us. Not only to give us eternal life, but to be our hope, our comfort, and our strength in times like these.
If you are in difficult times, I hope you’re not still trying to demand answers from God. I pray you’re not becoming bitter and angry if God is not doing things your way.
We don’t want to trade places with God. We don’t have the capacity. We want to let God be God, and we want to know that He’s at work for good, right in the midst of the hard times. We must train our eyes to see Him. You may have to strain at first, but keep looking to the horizon. He’s coming. He’s using the storm as pavement for His feet, to reach you in your hour of need.
Stand firm on the foundation of God’s unending love. He will bring you through.
